Tourism is a specialist field that offers the chance to work with a variety of people in locations across the world. Our graduates find the programme challenging, but it is also designed to be invigorating, enjoyable and fun.

As a travel consultant you will be putting together itineraries for people travelling across the country or across the globe. You could be involved in air, sea or land transport, tracking down the very best ways to see the world whether your client is involved in business or pleasure.

Our Diploma of Tourism provides you with the practical skills to advise travellers and the operational skills to manage a travel outlet. You will learn diverse tasks such itinerary preparation, guiding, organising venues, dealing with financial transactions and making bookings.

In only one year you will have completed your study and be employable in one of the fastest growing industries. This Diploma was designed by the Australian Travel Training Review Panel (ATTRP) and is nationally accredited and recognised.

As tourism is a service industry, you will need to be interested in people and keen to find ways to make their dreams come true. It is important that you have the maturity to keep your head when things do not go according to plan and that you can adopt a flexible but thorough approach.

This industry is ruled by deadlines and details - so you will need to be very organised and efficient with your time. It goes without saying that you will need a personal interest in the different countries, cultures, landmarks and people around Australia and across the world.

Whether you have just left school or a seeking a new direction in life, the Diploma of Tourism is one of constant change. It is never boring, often frustrating, nearly always exciting and constantly challenging. It takes a lot from you, but rewards you in so many ways.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

    • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent/mature age entry

    • Must be able to read, comprehend, and write complex information in English
    • Personal interview (if under 18 years of age with a parent/guardian preferred)
    • Successful completion of language, literacy and numeracy assessment

    Whilst the main thrust of this diploma leans towards the travel industry, your qualification provides a pathway to conference organisation, tour guiding, basic event management and wedding planning.     COURSE OVERVIEW

    This is an indication of the topic areas covered in the Diploma of Tourism:

    World Geography
    Most of our afternoons are spent studying the geography, culture and tourist highlights of most countries of the world. Included in this is a study of many brochures and assignments include itinerary planning and delivering the finished product to the client.

    Domestic and International Fares
    We study those that are relevant to today’s industry both those that are “published” and those that can be found on line.

    Tour Guiding
    We have an excursion that allows the students to perform an on-site tour guiding experience by providing a tour commentary that is sometimes witnessed by the general public

    Mystery Shopper
    Emphasis is placed on the necessity of good customer service and this unit includes a study of the standard of customer service currently offered by the local tourism industry.

    OHS, legal and legislative issues related to Tourism
    These important areas are covered thoroughly and the students will receive a basic grounding in all aspects that will become relevant upon employment.

    MYOB
    This covers all the financial core subjects within the Diploma of Tourism.
